Commentica Privacy Policy

Thank you for using Commentica (the “Extension”, “we”, “us”, or “our”). This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, why we collect it, how we use it, with whom we share it, and how you can exercise your privacy rights. By installing or using the Extension you agree to the collection and use of information in accordance with this policy.
Information We Collect
Personal Information
Email address — used to create your account, authenticate, and contact you about your account or purchases. Name (optional/when provided) — used for personalization and billing display.
Content you submit
Post content — when you click on the comment button of any linkedin post or the Extension icon, the Extension extracts the visible text content of that post and sends it to our server so an AI-generated comment can be returned. The server returns a generated comment which the Extension inserts into the LinkedIn comment box in your browser.
Payment & billing
If you purchase premium features, we collect whatever is necessary to process the purchase (name, email, billing info) via third-party payment processors (for example: Polar.sh, Stripe, PayPal). We do not store full payment card numbers on our servers.
Device & usage data (minimal)
Non-identifying technical data such as extension version, browser type, and usage counts (e.g., number of AI credits used). This helps us operate and secure the service and diagnose issues.
Local storage
The Extension may use browser local storage or extension storage APIs to store preferences, session info, and credits balance locally in your browser. You can clear these via browser settings.
How We Use Your Information
- Provide the core service: generate comments and insert them into LinkedIn comment boxes after your request.
- Authentication & account management: verify, create, and manage your Commentica account and free/paid credits.
- Payments & billing: process purchases, manage refunds, and send receipts (via third-party payment processors).
- Product improvement & operations: debug issues, monitor usage, prevent abuse and fraud, and improve features.
Communication
- Send you updates, promotional materials, and other information related to our services.
- Respond to your inquiries and provide customer support.
Analytics and Research
- Monitoring and analyzing usage trends and preferences.
- Conducting research and improving our services.
How We Share Your Information
We will not sell your personal information. We may share information in the following limited circumstances:
- Service providers: we share information with trusted third parties who perform services for us (e.g., payment processors, hosting providers, analytics providers, and AI service providers). These providers are contractually restricted from using your data for other purposes.
- AI processing: post content you submit is sent to our server and processed to generate a comment. That processing may involve third-party AI providers. Your submitted post content is used only to generate the requested comment and to improve and monitor the quality of service as described in this policy.
- Legal reasons: when required by law or to respond to lawful requests (e.g., court orders, subpoenas), or to protect our rights, safety, or property.
- Business transfers: if Commentica is acquired, merged, or sells all/part of its assets, user information may be transferred as part of that transaction (only consistent with this policy).
What happens to the post content you submit?
When you click the comment icon and request an AI comment:
1. The Extension extracts the visible text of the LinkedIn post and sends it to our server.
2. Our server processes the text (using AI models) and returns a generated comment to the Extension.
3. The Extension inserts that generated comment into the LinkedIn comment box in your browser. You review/post it.
Important: The post content you submit may contain personal data about other people. You are responsible for complying with applicable laws and LinkedIn’s terms when posting or sharing third-party content. We do not claim ownership of the content you submit.
Data retention
- Account data (email, name): retained for as long as your account is active or as needed to provide services and for legitimate business purposes (for example, for fraud prevention and legal compliance).
- Submitted post content and generated comments: retained for the period necessary to provide the service, debug/resolve problems, and improve service quality. We may retain anonymized/aggregated usage logs longer for analytics.
- Usage logs & analytics: typically retained for a limited period (for example, up to 12 months) unless longer retention is required by law or legitimate business needs.
If you request account deletion, we will remove your account data and, where possible, delete associated content from active systems consistent with applicable law and backup/recovery procedures. Some anonymized logs or records required for legal compliance may be retained.
Data Security
We use industry-standard administrative, technical, and physical measures to protect your information. This includes using HTTPS/TLS for data in transit and access controls for servers. Although we strive to protect your data, no system is completely secure — we cannot guarantee absolute security. Your Rights and Choices
Depending on your jurisdiction, you may have rights regarding your personal data, including:

By using the Extension you consent to transfer of your information to countries that may have different data protection laws.
Opt-Out
You can opt out of receiving promotional emails from us by following the unsubscribe instructions in those emails. You may also contact us directly to opt out.
Children's Privacy
The Extension is not intended for children under 16 (or a higher age where required by local law). We do not knowingly collect information from children. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact neuhiman@gmail.com to request deletion.
Third-party links & services
The Extension interacts with LinkedIn (a third-party website). We are not responsible for LinkedIn's data practices or privacy policy. If you follow links to other sites or use third-party services (for example, payment processors or AI providers), their own terms and privacy policies will govern their use of your data.
Changes to This Privacy Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of any changes by posting the new Privacy Policy on our website and updating the "Last updated" date at the top of this page.
